Easytrip call to action for 192 registration period

Mobility solutions specialist, easytrip, Ireland’s only electronic parking and tolling tag provider, is advising motorists to update their easytrip account details if selling or buying a car during the 192-registration period to avoid incurring any unnecessary toll charges.

Vehicle purchase trends continue to evolve with current sales figures* from the SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) highlighting an increase of 269.38% for electric vehicles compared to year to date last year. The figures also highlight a 20.74% reduction in diesel model purchases, a very small decline of 0.90% in petrol vehicle sales while used car imports are slightly up at 2.4% compared to 2018 figures.

“Purchasing a vehicle, old or new, is a big investment and we are seeing a shift in engine type sales. It’s important that drivers do their research and purchase a vehicle that fits their lifestyle and their budget. For those purchasing a new electric vehicle the EV toll incentive scheme** offers a refund up to 75% on Irish toll roads. Whether it’s a purchase or a sale, we want to remind drivers to update their easytrip account details as we don’t penalise our customers and we don’t want to see them being penalised unnecessarily. It’s about making everyone’s journey easier.” said Colin Delaney, CEO of easytrip.

Easytrip outline two potential scenarios that can lead to drivers paying unexpected toll charges:

  • Selling your old vehicle: if you’ve sold your old vehicle and inadvertently left your tag in the vehicle and haven’t updated your toll tag account, the new owner may continue to use your tag at most barrier toll plazas, racking up a bill connected to your account.

  • Buying a new vehicle: if you’ve bought a new vehicle and transferred your existing tag to it but forgot to update your account details, you’ll risk receiving a toll bill (billed at the higher rate) and penalty charge if you’ve travelled through the M50 toll plaza as your new vehicle registration is not connected to your toll tag account.

Easytrip customers can update their vehicle details through their online account at www.easytrip.ie or by contacting easytrip directly on 1890 67 67 68. Signing up to an easytrip tag account is simple, you save €1 on M50 toll fees and avoid incurring M50 toll fines for non-payment within the specified period. Tag holders can also avail of easytrip’s hassle free parking service in over 30 car parks nationwide with the easytrip App or tag as well as other services including breakdown assistance and Puncture Protect
