Driving on the M50 is going to change because new rules are being introduced

The new measures look set to be introduced next year.

Motorists on the M50 will soon be encouraged to drive slower in an effort to remove the potential of traffic jams and road accidents on sections where the standard speed limit is 100 km/h.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland announced plans to introduce an alternating speed limit between 60 and 80 km/h to improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of incidents, as reported by The Times Irish Edition.

The new system would allow “speed limits to be changed throughout the day” depending on how busy the road is.

A spokesperson has said: “Variable speed limits also help in reducing the stop-start actions of motorists when driving.”

The Department of Transport are currently planning legislation to help the Gardaí enforce this lower speed limit.
